WILLIAM TURLEY was born about 1749 in Northern Virginia and died in 1819 in Fauquier County, Virginia. In 1772 he married Margaret (Glasscock) Hardwick. At that time he moved Leeds Parish of Fauquier County Virginia.

Margaret and William had as least two sons Charles (May 5, 1773) and Sampson (August 4, 1786) and four daughters Margaret (October 8, 1775), Nancy (February 24, 1782), Jane (October 2, 1782 and Sarah October 4, 1788.

William Turley's lived in Prince William County in 1770 and 1771, his home in 1810 was located in Fauquier County, Virginia.

According to the old William Turley Bible, William Turley "departed this life 25 March 1819 in the 70th year of his age" which places his date of birth about 1749.

William Turley's parentage and place of birth are unknown, but it is believed that he may have been the son of Peter Turley who lived in Fairfax County in the mid-eighteenth century. Peter Turley's will dated October 6, 1781 in Henry County Virginia states that his oldest son was named William. Other sources indicate he may also be the son of a Charles Turley of Fairfax Virginia. William named his eldest son Charles.

  • The story of William is reasonably complete owing to the survival of early Fauquier County records, the William Turley Bible and other family papers. Two Virginia descendants, the late Mrs. Richie Lawrence Colvin and the late James Priest of Rappahannock County were responsible for preserving the William Turley Bible.
