Sarah Turman, daughter of Isaac Turman and Margaret Rector, was born in Clark County, Ohio, on 29 Oct 1808. Twenty years later, on 28 Jan 1828, still in Clark County, she married Willis Northcutt. Together, they had seven children.
By 1847, Sarah and Willis had divorced, and on 7 Sep of that year, in Clark County, Ohio, Sarah married the widower Samuel Smith, who had five children of his own still living at home. Together they had at least one more child, born in Iowa.
In Aug 1850, Sarah and Samuel were living in Wapello County, Iowa, with four of Sarah's Northcutt children living next door: the oldest, Margaret, and the three youngest, Salathiel, Mary Eliza, and Harriet. Again divorced, on 19 Feb 1852, in Oregon City, Oregon, Sarah married the widower Alanson Beers, who died a year later, in Feb 1853. In Jun 1860, Sarah, who appears to have retained her surname "Smith", was living in the household of her oldest son, Edward, in Josephine County, Oregon, together with her youngest son, Salathiel, and her two youngest daughters, Harriet and Clarinda. In Jul 1870, she was living in Marion County with her sons S. D., William W. and Salathiel T., together with the family of Oliver Beers, one of her late husband's sons.
Sarah died on 14 Aug 1870, in Marion County, Oregon, and was buried at Claggett Cemetery, Keizer, Marion County, Oregon.
Research Notes
↑ At FamilySearch, a son "Seth" is placed in this position, b. 1831, but without documentation or any information besides the name. That this should be "Shadrack D." is surmised from the facts that there is an "F. D.", born about 1832 in Ohio, in the Northcutt household in Oregon in 1860, together with the three other brothers. The "F" could easily be a mis-hearing of "S". It also happens that a Shadrack D. Northcutt, known as "S. D.", born in Ohio in 1832, is found buried in Los Angeles in 1896 by his siblings. Shadrack D. was named after their grandfather.
