Biography

Jerel G. Turman, 66, of Meadows of Dan, VA passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC.

Mr. Turman was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Puckett Turman; father, Garfield Turman; brothers-in-laws, Gerald Largen, Frank Simmons, and James Brinkley.

Jerel was a school teacher for 34 years and a school bus driver for 45 years for the Carroll County Public School system.

Jerel is survived by his wife of 44 years Debbie L. Turman of the home; children and spouses, Marsha and Tracy Caudill of Laurel Fork, and Bobby and Abby Turman of Meadows of Dan; four grandchildren, Nathan Caudill, Cailyn Turman, Brittney Caudill, and Clayton Turman; siblings and spouses, Dolores and Ray Creed of Winston-Salem, NC, Chrystal Simmons of Pilot Mt., NC, Loretta and Sam Meyer of Winston-Salem, NC, Dexter and Judy Turman of Abingdon, VA, Lowell and Sue Turman of Stuart, Marlene Largen of Hillsville, Lynetta and Larry Stowe of Stuart, Danny and Sharon Turman of Meadows of Dan, and Dwight Turman of Pfafftown, NC; father and mother-in-law, Dorless and Shelba Barr of Hillsville; brothers-in-laws and spouses, Rick and Sandra Barr of Hillsville, and Doug and Jill Barr of Galax; step grandchildren and spouses, Alesia and Robert Dalton of Austinville, Justin and Sarah Caudill of Hillsville; step great grandchild, Aidan Dalton. Several nieces and nephews, cousins and special friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. Winston Puckett and Pastor Nathan Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in the Pilot View Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, November 1, 2014 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Gospel Chapel Church in care of Janie Allen 374 Oakwood Road Laurel Fork, VA 24352, or to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home 945 Zephyr Road Dobson, NC 27017. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the Turman family.
