Harold Turner was born May 3, 1901 in Pontotoc Co., MS. His parents were Elisha Thora Turner and Lula Ada Tutor. He was the last child born to the union of Elisha and Ada Turner.[1]

Harold married Cora LuJean Luttrell in Calhoun County, Mississippi on Sept 4th, 1924. He was working in a logging camp when he married and he and Cora lived in a tent until their first child was born. He farmed, raised cattle and hogs, ran a Dairy farm and sold milk at one time. Harold had a passion for quail hunting with his bird dogs. He loved and took pride in his family and was a constant friend to the people that lived around him. He was known far and wide for the gift of conjuring off warts, which had been a practice handed down in his family for years. He and his family through the years attended Antioch Baptist Church and later Lantrip Baptist Church.

William Turner is listed in the February, 1986 United States Social Security Death Index. He had received his Social Security number in Mississippi. His last place of residence is noted as Banner, Calhoun, Mississippi.[1]

Memories: 1
Enter a personal reminiscence or story.
He raised cows, had a dairy farm where the cows were milked, loved bird hunting, and raised bird dogs. He also grew the best watermelons in the world, and always kept them cold in the cooler for whoever might happen by. In his younger years he worked at the saw mill, and he drove a grocery truck over the county when he had a grist mill and store across form where County Road 266 in Calhoun County is now, also where the store was, He built the house there ( where Ellie Bratton and family lived years later, this house is still standing in 2002) at this location. His dad and his brother had the store at Banner. This man loved life, and was the most pleased person with life that I ever knew. I'll tell you what so....he would say, and could he tell you the stories and tales as long as anyone would sit and listen. Oh he dipped his snuff and kept a little whiskey for the colds, but he was an honest, hard working person, admired by many. Pappy smoked a pipe. He loved to fish, and often times, carried us kids to Grenada backwaters to fish for the day. He was a patient one with us. I remember the years we would make hominy, and kill hogs. He was a pro and we enjoyed watching him, and helping him so much that we forgot to learn what needed to be done ourselves. He was always proud of his kids and grand kids, but would scold us when we needed it. He lived in the Antioch/Lantrip community for many years where he raised his family. On the day he died, He and grandson Tracy, had been to Cora's grave, it was her birthday, and she was on Pappy's mind. Tracy left Pappy at his house and came back to check on him later that afternoon. Pappy had sat down in his recliner, and cut a hunk of chewing tobacco, and slumped in his chair. He died of a heart attack, and is buried at Antioch Cemetery, Calhoun County, MS.

His family was important to him, all my work on this family history would have given him much pleasure. There was so much about his grandfather's relatives, that he never knew. He would have really enjoyed the first Turner reunion, when all the Turners form everywhere came. He would have enjoyed telling what he knew about his ancestors to them. He has gone on to be with the Lord and is already part of that great reunion with family and the Lord.
