Biography

Mary was born in 1899. She was the daughter of Elijah Turner and Deemie Wilson. She married Elvie Earl Tutor in Pontotoc County, MS on Sept 28 1914, per Marriage Record in Pontotoc County Circut Court Marriage Record Book -8 page 367. She passed away in 1995. Buried at Carey Springs Cemetery, Pontotoc Co., MS. Died at the Benchmark Health Care Center in Meridian. She was a homemaker and a member of the Friendship Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for 40 years. She lived in Ecru, MS. Brother Doyle Turner sang in her funeral service. [1]

Jessie Burrell Tutor March 14, 1920 - March 26, 2013 Jessie's Story

Services for Jessie Burrell Tutor will be held Saturday, at 11 a.m., at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Franklin Denham officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Jessie Burrell Tutor, 93, of Meridian, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at his home. He was born March 14, 1920, in Randolph as the son of Elvie Earl and Mary Edith Tutor, both now deceased. He was married to Katherine Windham Tutor on Aug. 15, 1940 in New Albany. He attended Ecru High School and graduated from Ole Miss with a degree in pharmacy. Mr. Tutor served in the army during World War II. He was the owner of Tutor Pharmacy and at one point owned three drug stores in Meridian. He taught Sunday School at Highland Baptist Church and was past President of the Mississippi Pharmacy Association. His hobbies were a life time of learning, fishing and playing golf with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Katherine Tutor; his children and their spouses: Susan Tutor and Gerald Black of Portland, Ore., Jesse and Betty Tutor of Houston, Texas, and Tom and Sue Tutor of Islesboro, Maine; grandchildren: Brooks and Sherida Tutor of Houston, Texas, and Daniel, TL and Jesse Tutor of Islesboro, Maine; great-grandchildren: Layla and Savannah Tutor of Houston, Texas; and, his niece and nephew, Rusty Cummings and Kay Finley of Friendship. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of his senior golf group at Lakeview Golf and his long time friend Buddy Sims. Memorial donations may be made to the East Mississippi Animal Rescue, 2440 North Hills Street, Suite 105, PMB 107, Meridian, MS 39305, in lieu of flowers. The family thanks Gloria Fortner and her team of helpers for the loving care they gave JB during his final time with us. JB kept his positive optimistic attitude until the very end. He will be remembered for making those around him feel loved. He loved nature, learning and engaging others in thoughtful conversation. May he rest in peace with his Creator.
