Biography

Phoebe was born in 1813. Phoebe was widowed about 1866. She was living with Andrew Godfrey in 1870. In 1880 she received $80 compensation for land damages from the Shenandoah Valley Railroad from Luray to Rockingham line. She passed away in 1898.

Will of Phoebe Stoneberger, Page County, VA, Will Book W, page 114. I, Phoebe Stoneberger, of Page County, VA, make my last will and testament - I will and bequeath to my grandchild Lulu Bell Vine of Page County all my land lying below or on the west side of the Shenandoah Valley Railroad including my mansion house situated in said county of Page lying on Little Line Run adjoining Harrison Housden and others. 26 November 1889. Witness, Geo. F. Brubaker, Spencer S. Butler. Signed Phebe Stoneberger, by mark. Proved on Friday, March 5, 1898 by Geo. F. Brubaker. Turner-23267 and Turner-15908 appear to represent the same person because: Comparison of dates and relationship to George Stoneberger. Phoebe was listed as 28 in 1850 census (birth year 1822), age 44 in 1870 (birth year 1826?) fudging her age. Listed as 67 in 1880 census, birth year 1813. Which census year is more reliable on her age?
