Biography

This profile is part of the Turner Name Study.

Frank Turner was born on October 09, 1908 to James Alfred Turner and Mary Ruth Windsor at their home at Nantyglesiad Cottage, Resolven, Wales, U.K. He was the fourth child out of an eventual seven children, comprised of four boys and three girls, but sadly, his older sister, a little girl, Florence May, had already died at just over a year, so Frank would never know her. All of the other children lived to adulthood and all six surviving children eventually married. The children’s lives would all be disrupted in March 1922 when their mother took ill and died in Swansea hospital at only 40 years old. Their father remarried a widow in October the next year and Frank’s two sisters were sent to London to live with a spinster aunt, Kate Windsor.

Frank must have moved to London some time after his sisters, as he married Mary Ann (Marie) Thomas on July 27, 1935 at Tottenham, London, England. They did not have any of their own children, but adopted one son. After Frank retired, they moved out to Reading, to be close to Heathrow Airport, as their adopted son had become a pilot. Frank died August 13, 1976 at Reading and Marie about 1995.
