Elizabeth "Betsy" was born in 1777 in Amherst, Amherst, Virginia, United States. She was married to Moses Tinsley on 19 March 1798, at the age of 20 in Amherst Co., VA. Moses and Betsy had two sons, Isaac Turner Tinsley (1801-1874) and John Turner Tinsley (1802-deceased). Betsy may have been 21 when she had Isaac and 22 when she had John. Since there are no other records of other children, it is hard to believe that she was not pregnant again. She was 26 years, 5 months, 29 days old when she died. Perhaps it was the teenager that was caring for her in her last days that she saw as a suitable replacement for the family. I can only hope that she told Moses, "When I die, do not wait. Take Sarah as your wife. You have my blessings." With that message, he did exactly as Betsy wanted it. Since Moses Tinsley marries another wife, Sarah, on the same day that Betsy dies. I can only assume that Betsy death was not a surprise. Perhaps she had been sick a long time and had expressed her dying wish or perhaps Moses had made arrangements with another family to marry when his wife died. Remember,"Dead men tell no tales" so we will never know for sure.
