William Thomas Turner was born in Liverpool, Lancashire on 23 October 1856. He was the son of Charles Turner.
William's marriage to Alice Hitching was registered in Chorlton, Lancashire in the third quarter of 1883.
William was Captain of the RMS Lusitania when it was torpedoed and sunk off the south coast of Ireland, near the Old Head of Kinsale on May 7, 1915. 
His nick name was "Bowler Bill" for his favorite choice of headgear while ashore. 
William died in Great Crosby, Lancashire on 23 June 1933.
