Freddie L. Turner PORTSMOUTH - Freddie Lamar Turner, 74, of the 1400 block of Hodges Ferry Road, went to be with the Lord Thursday, June 18, 2009, in his residence. A native of Waycross, Ga., he retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a rigger/diver. He also retired from Dail's Hardware and had worked as a greeter/auditor for Sam's Club. Freddie was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church and the church choir. He was a member of the Boogie on the Bay Shag Club and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He is survived by his wife, Janice F. Turner; two daughters, Sheryl C. Bryan and Penny L. Kinsley and husband David, all of Portsmouth; three sons, Ricky L. Turner and R. Brian Turner, both of Portsmouth and Scott Lamar Turner and wife Laura of Chesapeake; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 22, in Pinecrest Baptist Church by the Rev. Tom Potter. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Pinecrest Baptist Church Building Funds. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com.
