Matilda Turner was christened on 2 October 1842.
In the 1851 census, the surname has been mistranscribed as "Gurner". However, the family - Thomas, Sarah, Edwin, Matilda, Helana, and Elizabeth - are now living in Woolwich, Kent, at 17 Joseph Street, near the Woolwich dockyard. This is presumably where Thomas is working as an Iron Moulder.
In the 1861 census, the family has moved to 11 Joseph Street. Thomas is still an Iron founder, working in HM dockyard, now with his son Edwin. Matilda is a milliner, while "Ellena", Elizabeth and Thomas aged 8 are scholars. Her birthplace is given as "Oldbridget, Shropshire"
On 29 December 1861, Matilda Turner, of 11 Joseph Street, Woolwich, an underage spinster, daughter of Thomas Turner a Moulder, married James Palmer, a bachelor of age, of 8 Chapel Street. He was a shipwright, and the sone of Matthew Palmer, also a shipwright. The marriage was witnessed by Matilda's siblings, Edwin and Helena Mary Turner.
