Mr. William Turner, a native of this county and a veteran of the Civil War, died at the home of his son Ulysses Grant Turner, Manilla, Ind. Sept. 28th. Mr. Turner lived near here practically all of his life until about 4 months ago when he went to Manilla to make his home with his son. The following, telling of his death, was sent to us from a Rushville, Ind. paper. Funeral services were held from the Carmony Brothers Funeral Home in Manilla for William Turner, Civil War Veteran of Manilla, who died at 11:00 Saturday morning at the home of his son Grant Turner in Manilla. The Rev W.R.Jinnett was in charge of the services and burial was made in Manilla cemetery. He was 92 years old, having been born in Tennessee, on April 30, 1832. He lived a great part of his life as a resident of Kentucky, coming here to reside with his son a few months ago, where he is well known. The deceased was married twice his first wife was Miss Zilphia Newell, and 2 children of this marriage survive. They are Mrs. Lizzie Jeffries, of Homer, Ind. and Mrs. Annna Lee Hadley, of Oklahoma. His second marriage was with Mrs. Christine Russell (of Liberty Ky) and their son with whom he lived with at the time of death. "Uncle Billy" as he was familiarly known here, was a splendid old gentleman and his many friends here will be made sad to learn of his passing. He had been in unusually good health considering his advanced age, but he took sick the latter part of August and died September the 28th.
