Patricia, here is what I have put together on Pleasant Turner. The key to this family might be in Goochland Co., Virginia. Possibly there is a will for Bartholomew Turner which would help prove the family ties. Also, if several direct male descendants would participate in the Turner DNAproject, it would help narrow down the search. Have fun with all of this.Be sure to check the Barnes Forum for more.

FAMILY NOTES
Marriage(1): There is no proof positive that Polly Carrell Turner is the same person who lived in Madison/Garrard Co., Kentucky. There is a lot of circumstantial evidence to indicate it is true.
HUSBAND NOTES: Pleasant Turner
Birth: Based on age at marriage ca 1800 being 20-25.
Residence(1): Madison Co., Kentucky Tax Book for 1811
Residence(2): Witnessed the will of Thomas Stephenson along with ThomasPark and John Waremouth.
Death(1): Satisfactory proof being given to the court that Polly Turner was legally married to Pleasant Turner a private in Capt. Dudley Farris's company detached from Kentucky in the service of the U. S. for the term of six months, and was killed in the battle on the 5th day of May 1813 by the enemy, and the same is ordered to be certified. Garrard Co., Court Order Book C (15) p 117.
General: This family is pure conjecture and should not be taken as fact. It is based on census, marriage and court records as no will exists for Pleasant Turner.
It is quite possible he was the Pleasants Turner born 29 Nov 1774, s/o Bartholomew Turner and Mary Johnson. More research needs to be done inGoochland Co., Virginia tax records to see if and when this Pleasants Turner moved from Goochland Co.
WIFE NOTES: Mary (Polly) Carrell
Birth: Based on age in 1830 and 1840 census and being 16-21 when married.
Census(3): Household comprised of 1 male 10-16, 1 male 16-18, 2 males16-26, 1 female 0-10,
2 females 10-16, and 1 female 26-45.
Census(4): Household comprised of 1 male 5-10, 1 male 15-20, 1 male20-30, 2 females 0-5, 2
females 15-20, 1 female 20-30, and 1 female 40-50.
Census(5): Household comprised of 1 male 20-30, 2 females 20-30, and 1female 50-60.
Death: Disappears from census records between 1840 and 1850 and children still living
in Madison Co., Kentucky.
General: It is not proved at this time that Polly Carrell who marriedPleasants Turner in Goochland Co., Virginia is the same Polly Turner who was the widow of Pleasant Turner but circumstantial evidence indicates it may be true.
In 1820 there is a Polly Turner with six children who fit to be this family.

It is my belief that at this time Mary (Polly) Turner was living with her son,

Charles Turner, daughters Mary Turner and Elizabeth Turner and her married son Pleasant Turner, his wife Jinsy Turner and their three children of whom only one is known. Pleasant Turner married in 1826 in Garrard Co., Kentucky and is not found on any census record for 1830.

It is my belief that at this time Mary (Polly) Turner was living with her son,
Charles Turner, daughters Mary Turner and Elizabeth Turner. PleasanTurner was enumerated on the 1840 Garrard Co., Kentucky census.
Mary was not listed in the 1850 census for either Garrard Co., or MadisonCo., Kentucky.

Census(15):
General: There is no proof that he was a son of Mary (Polly) Turner. He named a son Pleasant Turner which was not a common Turner name. Napoleon B. Turner's family folklore stated that Napoleon was a cousin of Squire Turner. Squire Turner was a son of Reuben Turner and Napoleon Turner was a son of Pleasant Turner. From this, it is assumed that Reuben and Pleasant Turner were brothers.
CHILD NOTES: Pleasant A. Turner

AKA(27):
General: It is assumed he was a son of Mary (Polly) Turner from close association with
Charles Turner who is believed to be her son. Pleasant Turner was a witness on the marriage of Nancy Turner, daughter of Mary (Polly) Turner. In 1830 it is assumed he was living with Mary Turner as he can not be found anywhere else. In 1840 he was living in Garrard Co., Kentucky and the in 1850 he was living with Charles Turner in Madison Co., Kentucky. His son, Napoleon B. Turner's family stated they were cousins to Squire Turner, son of Reuben Turner.
CHILD NOTES: Nancy Turner
Birth: Birth date is approximated from marriage date in 1804; if 15-20 when married. Under age when married as her mother Mary Turner, gave consent.
CHILD NOTES: Charles C. Turner
Birth(28,29):
Census(30): Household comprised of 1 male 20-30, 2 females 20-30, and 1female 50-60.
Occupation(31):
Residence(1): Madison Co., Kentucky Deed Book B7 page 329 states he moved to Illinois.
CHILD NOTES: Mary Turner
Birth(32):
CHILD NOTES: Elizabeth Turner
Birth(33):
General: In 1850 she is listed as being born in 1820. If this is correct,she is not a daughter of Pleasant and Mary Turner. In 1860, her children were living with Charles Turner in Madison Co., Kentucky. It is assumed she died between1850 and 1860. I think it is possible she was born between 1810-1813. This ties her to the 1820, 1830 and 1840 census. I can not be certain because of a lack of will for Pleasant Turner or Mary Turner his widow.
