KIDDERMINSTER. Death of Abraham Turner, ESQ. —This town was taken by surprise on Saturday morning by intelligence of the death of Abraham Turner, Esq., the last representative of the banking firm of Farley, Turner, and Jones. Although this sad event took place at Cheltenham on Thursday night, it was not communicated to the family here till Friday night, and the first intimation of the occurrence to the town was the bank being closed on Saturday morning, with a notice on the shutters that in consequence of Mr. Turner's death the business of the bank is suspended for the present." This announcement created no small stir in the town, and, as many persons were in the habit of drawing on the Saturday the sums requisite to pay wages, it caused some inconvenience. We understand that there are about 400 depositors in the bank, and the last partner being dead, and the firm thus defunct, great uneasiness is felt by all the creditors. This consternation has been increased by the fact that no will has yet been found. When the event became generally known on Saturday, a number of gentlemen held a meeting, the result of which was that a deputation was appointed to wait upon the directors of the Birmingham and Midland Bank, inviting them to open a branch here. The deputation accordingly went to Birmingham, and on Monday a person from that bank visited the town to make enquiries into the matter, which ended in the directors declining to comply with the invitation. The Worcester City and County Bank offered to open a branch, but as the deputation were then in treaty with the Birmingham and Midland, nothing could be done in it. Now that the one is finally disposed of, the other proposal will probably be entertained. Mr. Turner was treasurer to the corporation, and also held money belonging to the union. He was also a magistrate for the county and for the borough, and chairman of the board of guardians. His death was unexpected. He had for some time suffered from some complaint in the foot, and mortification setting in ultimately caused his death so suddenly. A meeting of the council is called for today (Wednesday) to elect a treasurer in his place.
