Biography

Daniel Turner was born, circa 1641 (based on his 1665 marriage date), probably at Scituate, Plymouth Colony, to Humphrey Turner & Lydia (Gaymer) Turner. However, no birth or baptism record has been found. It is known that Daniel was the son of Humphrey, because in his will, dated the 28th of February, 1669/70 and proved the 5th of June, 1673, Humphrey, of Scituate, tanner, bequeathed to his "son Daniel Turner £12."[1]

Daniel's marriage to "Hanna" Randall, recorded in the town original town records of Scituate, occurred the 20th of June, 1665.[2]

The children that are also recorded in the original town records of Scituate, include[3]:

Hannah, born August 14th, 1668.
Eliab, born February 14th, 1669/70.
Abner, born in July, 1672.
Amasa, born December 10th, 1674.
Mary, born April 13th, 1679.
Bettie, born December 18th, 1680.
Rachel, born April 9th, 1687.

A presumed son, Lazarus (b. circa, 1666) is not recorded in Scituate records, but there is a three year gap between Daniel & Hannah's marriage, & their first recorded child, Hannah. There is clearly room for Lazarus or some other child at the beginning of Daniel & Hannah's marriage. In fact, there is a summary of an inventory document on Lazarus' estate in which Eliab Turner is making an oath to the inventory "of his Brother Lazarus Turner Decease.."[4] Note, that this supposed inventory is not found among Lazarus' official probate papers.[5]

There are no probate records for Daniel in Plymouth County & no death is recorded in Scituate vitals. The 1714 estimated death year is without support. However, there is a deed, written in 1675, that is not recorded until 1703. (Plymouth Deeds, Vol. 5, pgs. 23-24.) This may be a clue to Daniel's death.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Daniel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Daniel:
