Biography

Jane Sophronia (Turnipseed) Stackhouse was born 24 March 1841 in Augusta Township, Carroll, Ohio, the daughter of Johann Heinrich “Henry” Reibsamen (the German for Turnipseed), who adopted the surname Turnipseed; and Alcinda Rhodes. Jane had at least ten siblings. She married George Bates Stackhouse. Jane died on 20 April 1903. ^[1] Note: FindAGrave shows her birthdate in error as 20 April 1848, likely an error which came from her death certificate. All other records indicate that she was born in 1841, and 24 March 1841 according to FamilySearch.

In 1850, the Turnipseed family lived in Augusta, Carroll, Ohio. Jane, 8, was born in Ohio. She lived with her parents, Henry Turnipseed, 53, born in Virginia, a farmer; and Alcinda Turnipseed, 44, also born in Virginia; and eight siblings, all born in Ohio, except for the eldest one, who was born in Virginia. ^[2]

In 1860, Jane Turnipseed, 19, lived with her parents and four siblings in Augusta, Carroll, Ohio. Her father was a farmer. ^[3]

In 1880, Jane Turnipseed, 39, worked as a housekeeper, living in Augusta, Carroll, Ohio. Her widowed mother, Alcinda Turnipseed, 70, lived nearby. ^[4]

George Stackhouse and Jane S. Turnipseed were married in Carroll County, Ohio on New Year’s Day, 1883. ^[5]

Jane S. Stackhouse, 55, died on 20 April 1903 in West Township, Columbiana, Ohio. Cause of death was paralysis. She was born in Augusta Township (Ohio), the daughter of Henry Turnipseed and Alcinda Rhodes. ^[6]

Jane Sophronia (Turnipseed) Stackhouse, 20 April 1848 (ERROR) ~ 20 April 1903, is buried at Augusta Christian Church Cemetery, Augusta, Ohio, with her parents, four siblings, and other family. ^[7]
