John Turtle is part of a Bahamian family.

Biography

Methodist minister. "Early in his life his heart yielded to the power of saving grace. Soon after his conversion, he began to call sinners to repentance. and having laboured for two years as a respectable and ueful Local Preacher in his native land, the love of Christ constrained him to devote hiself to Missionary work."

Appointed in 1817, John Turtle devoted himself to Missionary work in the Bahamas and Jamaica. Jun 1818 John Turtle arrived in the Bahamas, 'the first helper sent out.' A man of great worth and no ordinary talents. Turtle gave seven years of his young manhood to the Bahamas, where he finished his course in 1825. The people loved him, and his ministry was everywhere fruitful. This Mission was favoured in the character of its... He ministered in New Providence, Eleuthera, and Abaco circuits, also the Turks islands appointment in 1825..

Arrived in Nassau, from Gravesend, England in the summer of 1818. Married Mary Margaret McLeod, daughter of William McLeod, 11 August 1819 - in Nassau, Bahamas

Well loved minister in the islands. Died and buried in the Turks and Caicos at the age of 32 years.
