Charlie Turvey was born on 24 March 1896 in Bayswater, London and was christened on 2 August. His father at the time was working in France as a stableman, in the chateau of a French petty aristocrat.
His mother died in 1902, when he was aged just 6 years old. He was sent to live with his aunt in London where he studied.
In 1911, he was listed with his father in the census in Davron, Yvelines, France.
He joined the crew of the RMS Titanic aged just 15 years old, as a page boy, working in the a la carte restaurant. When the ship started to sink, along with the other restaurant workers he was locked into the restaurant to prevent them from getting to the lifeboats ahead of the passengers. He was lost at sea and his body was never found.
