Biography

Daniel Turvey (junior) was born in Virginia in about 1789.[1]

His father - Daniel Turvey (senior) - was listed in the 1810 census of Wood county, Virginia (now West Virginia). He was shown as over 45, living with a wife, also over 45, a 16-26 son, two 10-16 daughters and three 16-26 year old daughters. It's thought that the 16-26 year old son is Daniel Turvey, junior, as he would have been 21 years old. [2]

Daniel Turvey married Deborah Morris on 16 December 1818 in Wood county.[3]

The 1820 census listed Daniel Turvey, junior, 16-26 as head of a one person household. Daniel Turvey (senior) had presumably died in the meantime.[4]

By 1830 he had moved to Upper Township, Lawrence County, just over the border in Ohio. He headed a household that consisted of him (male, 40-50), two sons (under 5 & 5-10), four daughters (under 5, two 5-10 and 10-15) and his wife (20-30).[5]

He was still living in Upper Township in 1870. He was 81 years old, infirm, living with his wife Deborah and a relative, Leanza Turvey. A number of other Turvey families lived in the immediate area.[1]

Research notes

Living next door to Daniel in 1870 was a Susan Turvie, 72, also born Virginia. [1] She was also living in Upper Township in 1850 with her children Rachel, Wesley, Hanna and Lee [2]. Wesley married Eliza Coffman in 1852 and was still living in Upper in 1870 with his wife and seven children. [3]

The two children living with Daniel & Debby in 1830 are possibly William Turvey (born 1825 in Ohio) and Alexander Turvey. William Turvey was living next door to Daniel and Debby in 1870.[6]
