Biography

Royal Twichell was born November 20, 1801 to Lemuel Twitchell and Esther Seaver. He was christened on February 14, 1802 in Athol, Worcester, Massachusetts. [1] [2]

Royal married Ruth Field on May 1, 1825 in Concord, Erie, New York. [3] In 1830, Royal, Ruth and children - a boy and a girl under age 5 - were living in Concord. [4]

In 1840, Royal, Ruth and six children were residents of Colden, Erie, New York. Their children were Dwight, Lemuel Houghton, Elmira, Almeda, Emily, Royal Emmons & Lois Clarinda. [5]

In the biography written by his youngest daughter, Lois Clarinda Blackwell, Royal was described to be of pale complexion with sandy hair and light blue eyes. He stood about 5'10", well proportioned and erect. [6]

After Ruth died in about 1844, Royal remarried to Almena Mary Nourse. In 1850, they and two children were residents of Otto, Cattaraugus, New York. Royal was Congregational clergyman. [7]

Royal's missionary work caused him to travel alone the hills of New York, then on to the prairies in Minnesota and finally to Nebraska. [8]

Royal died April 1, 1882 and was buried at Arborville Rural Cemetery, Arborville, York, Nebraska. [9] [10]
