Biography

Frederick Twining was born in 1865, in the state of Maine. He was a son of Harrison Twining (1814-1887) and Mary Jane Cole (1829-1896).

Between 1870 and 1880, he relocated to Michigan.

In 1888, he married Lillie M. Hill (1870- ). The couple had the following children:

  1. Hubert Hill (1900-1990)
  2. Herbert Hill (1901- ) m1 Ruth May King , m2 Rosella M Klein (1915- )

Research Notes

He founded the village of Twining, Aranac Co., Mich. in 1897. It was a flourishing town of 500 inhabitants, built in a solid forest, incorporated in 1903. Mr. Twining was the proprietor of the general store, furniture store, carriage and farm machinery, elevator and feed mill, three lumber camps, 200 acre farm on which he raised Durham cattle, editor and publisher of the Twining Siftings; President of the village and owned Tom Thumb a 2:19 pacer.
