Note N330John Tydings is listed in the 1776 Maryland census in Anne Arundel County, All Hallows Parish with 8 children. He took the Oath of Allegiance before Hon. Richard Harwood, Jr. on 1 Mar 1778. John died without a will and his son Richard Tydings administered his estate. The first appraisal was made on 7 Dec 1803. The final distribution of his estate was made on 20 Jan 1816. The birth records of most of his children are recorded in the All Hallows Parish records of Anne Arundel County. Further proof of his children can be found in an indenture he made with his children on 11 Aug 1798 and Chancery Papers #5175 - Land Office, Annapolis, MD.
Some researchers also list a Joseph Tydings as a son of John because of the Chancery Papers mentioned above. The papers start out listing the complainants as "Joseph Tydings and Ann his wife...." which could be interpreted that John had a son named Joseph but the heir is Ann the wife of Joseph Tydings. Joseph is not listed as an heir in either the indenture, the Chancery Papers nor later in the distribution of John's estate - Ann is listed in all of them. Ann most likely married her cousin and her married name is the same as her family name.
