Virgil Theodore Tyler was born on 1 Sep. 1903 at Savanna, Carroll Co., Illinois, USA. ^[1] He appeared on the census of 11 May 1910 in the household of his parents, Albert Alleno Tyler and Mary Agnes (Stadler) Tyler, at Milwaukee St., Savana, Carroll Co., Illinois.^[2] He appeared on the census of 2 Jan. 1920 in the household of his parents at 442 Chicago Ave., Savanna, Carroll Co., Illinois.^[3]

He married Gladys A. Straight on 22 April 1928 at St. John's Catholic Church, Savana, Carroll Co., Illinois. ^[1]

He and Gladys appeared on the census of 14 April 1930 at Savanna, Carroll Co., Illinois. ^[4] He lived in 1932 at Savana, Carroll Co., Illinois.^[5] He was a cashier at the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad freight office, Savanna, Illinois,^[1] when he and Gladys appeared on the census of 27 April 1940 at 442 Chicago Ave., Savana, Carroll Co., Illinois.^[6]

He died on 7 Sep. 1952 at 442 Chicago Ave., Savana, Carroll Co., Illinois, at age 49 and was buried at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Savanna, Carroll Co., Illinois. ^[1] HIs memorial has a photo of his headstone shared with Gladys, a copy of his obituary, and links to those of family members.^[7]

VIRGIL THEODORE TYLER, 49, Savanna native, well known Milwaukee railroad employee, and active in the Boy Scout work until his illness, died at 7 a.m. Sunday at his home, 442 Chicago Avenue, after a year's illness. He was the son of Albert A. Tyler and was born Sept. 1, 1903, in Savanna, Ill., and lived here his entire life. He was graduated from St. John's school and Savanna High School. His marriage to Miss Gladys Straight of Hanover was solemnized April 22, 1928, in St. John's Catholic Church of Savanna. Three sons and one daughter were born to this union. Mr. Tyler was employed by the Milwaukee railroad in the freight department for 32 years. At the time he was forced to leave his work due to illness he was serving as cashier. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, brotherhood of American Railways, Railway and Steamship Clerks' association, and Savanna lodge Loyal Order of Moose, and he was explorer advisor for Boy Scout troop 44, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Savanna. Surviving are his wife, three sons, Virgil T. Tyler, Jr. (Actually Virgil A. Tyler), Navy, Jacksonville, Fla., and Charles Grant, senior and Stanley Thomas, sophomore, in the Savanna township high school; one daughter Mrs. Eugene (Alverda) Boos, Fulton; a grandson, Michael Boos; two brothers, William and Irving Tyler, both of LaCrosse Wis.; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Mildred) Hiher of Savanna and Mrs. J.A. (Evelyn Marie) Rhodes of Honolulu, Hawaii; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Frank.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. John's Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Fuller Memorial funeral home where friends may call.^[1] A special Thank You to. Tom Skrentny.
