Biography

John was born in 1696. John Tyler ... He passed away in 1790. [1] [2]

"The Tyler Genealogy: Descendants of Job Tyler of Andover, MA" says that Sarah Barron was "of Canterbury, CT." However, no evidence has yet been found to support this. They were married before 20 Dec 1719, when their first son (Isaac) was born in Chelmsford, MA.

A deed in Tolland shows a land transaction between Isaac Barron (probably his father in law) and John Tyler. On 22 Aug 1737, Isaac Barron Jr. of Chelmsford, MA sold land to John Tyler in Tolland CT. The deed begins as follows:

To all people to whom these presents shall come Greeting. Know ye that I Isaac Barron Junr of Chelmsford in ye County of Middlesex in ye Province of Massachusetts Bay in New England Husbandman for and in consideration of ye sum of seventy pounds current money of ye province afosaid to me in hand paid before ye [illegible] hereof by John Tyler of Tollon in ye County of Hartford and Colony of Conecticut in New England Tanner the receipt whereof I Do hereby acknowledge and myself fully satisfied contented & paid have given, granted, bargoned, sold, Rlished Relegted Conveyed & conformed & by these presents do freely clearly & absolutely give, grant, bagon, sell, aliene, release, convey & confirm unto him ye said John Tyler his heirs & assigns forever one certain tract of land scituate lying & being in sd Tolland containing by estimation eighty four acres be ye same more or less butted and bounded as follows

(and then goes on to describe the parcel of land)

Isaac Barron signed the deed on 22 Aug 1737, and it was entered on 2 Sep 1737, witnessed by Stephen Steel and Ruth Steel. Stephen Steel was the minister of the Congregational Church in Tolland, and John Tyler was a Deacon in that church.

Several other land records appear in Tolland for this John Tyler, both as Grantor and Grantee. The first record that his name appears is on 31 Jan 1720, on a land survey for property in the "7 and 9" District of Tolland, CT.
