Biography

Roxy was born about 1805. She is the daughter of William Tyler.

In 1836, Roxy married James Ambrose Cutting in Grafton County, New Hampshire. That year her father was killed by a falling tree.

In 1840, Roxy and James lived in Haverhill, Grafton County. Her widowed mother and three siblings (Harriet, Sarah and Michael) lived next door.

In 1850, Roxanna (age 37) and James (age 37) lived in Haverhill with Roxanna's mother, Dolly Hildreth Tyler (age 70), her sister Harriet (age 39), and cousin Damon Young Tyler (age 23). Damon was a farmer and the son of William Tyler's brother, Reverend Amos Eugene Tyler.

In 1855, Roxanna (age 42) and James (age 42) lived in Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, with Dolly (age 75) and Dolly's sisters: Harriet (age 46) and Sarah Tyler (age 37). James was an artist and inventor of the "ambrotype" form of photography. James applied for a passport that year.

In 1860, Roxanna (age 46) and James (age 47) lived in Chelsea with Dolly (age 80), Harriet Tyler (age 50) and Sarah Tyler (age 41). James owned and operated an "Aquarial Garden", which was later sold to P.T. Barnum. The family had $3,000 in real estate and $3,500 in personal property.
