Biography

Elizabeth was Cherokee.

Elizabeth was born in the Cherokee Nation about 1844. She is the daughter of Jackson Tyner and Delilah Seabolt, both Cherokee. Delilah died in 1845 [1] and Reuben married Letitia Keys. Elizabeth and her brother Reuben appear together on the 1851 Drennan Roll [2] Her father, step-mother and other siblings appear on the Old Settler Roll. [3] According to Emmet Starr, Elizabeth married Edward Melton; they had no children. [4] Elizabeth's death date is unknown. Eastern Cherokee applications of a niece and nephew do not give a date, but she does not appear on the 1880 Cherokee census. [5]

Research Notes

Elizabeth should not be confused with another woman by the same name, Elizabeth Tyner Alberty, the wife of Cornelius Alberty.
