Marmaduke was born in 1533, the fourth son of Sir William Tyrwhitt and Isabel, daughter of William Girlington. He married Ellen, daughter of Lionel Reresby of Thrysburg, and they had five sons and six daughters, one of whom died as a baby. Marmaduke was a Memeber of Parliament, representing Great Grimsby in 1558.
