Biography

John Tyson (Jan Mattison) was born in 1635 the second son of five (5) born to William and Elizabeth Tyson.   This biography was auto-generated by a GEDCOM import.[1] It's a rough draft and needs to be edited.

Family tradition has it that the five brothers, William (1633); John (1635); Samuel (1637); Joel (1639); and Uriah (1641) all came over from the United Kingdom. However, after cross-checking and referencing information that I’ve acquired about their movements it is more likely that the only son born in the United Kingdom would have been William, Jr.   I’ve based this conclusion on the fact that William (John), Sr. arrived in America in 1635 and of the five sons William, Jr's. date of birth is the only one prior to that date.   The first of only a few records regarding John Tyson is found in Accomack County, Virginia. In 1679, John and his wife Susannika purchased 100 acres of land. John’s 100 acre purchase represented approximately 25 percent of the original patent granted in 1643 to Obediance Robins. Robins’ assigned the land to Montjoy Eveling and his wife Dorothy (Robins’ daughter). The land was willed or given to their son George Eveling who sold it in 1678 to William Andrews. John purchased the land from William Andrews.   I believe William Andrews is either Susannika's father or possibly her first husband and William John Tyse purchased their first land from him either as his son-in-law or as the new husband of Susannika.

Robins assigned land to daughter Dorothy & her husband Mountjoy Eveling. 1678 George Evelin, son & heir sold to William Andrews who had married widow Dorothy Evelin. Dispositions by Andrews broke the tract into 4 parts. 1679 Andrews sold 100 acres to JOHN and SUSANNIKA TYSON and their son MATTHIAS. It was bounded on the west by the road and the 200 acres from N44 which Andrews had sold to Charles Parkes. It was bounded on the south by the Otterdams, which was the early name for the main head branch of Newport Creek. After the death of JOHN TYSON the widow SUSANNIKA married ROBERT THOMPSON. 1691 The THOMPSON's and MATTHIAS and MARY TYSON, all of ACCOMACK, sold the 100 acres to Charles Parkes, gunsmith, and it became merged with his N44 land which has been reported."
