Biography

Pauline A. H. Rooker was born about 1812 in South Carolina. ^[1] She was the daughter of John Hawkins Rooker and his first wife Anne Garland Thomasson Rooker.

Pauline A. Rooker married Allen Green Anderson on September 21, 1836 in Coweta County, Georgia. ^[2]

In the 1840 U. S. Census ^[3] the family was still in Coweta County, Georgia. They had one son who was under five years old. There were two slaves in the household.

In the 1850 U. S. Census (October 1, 1850) ^[1] the family remained in Coweta County. Paulina was thirty-eight years old. She had five children: William D. age 12, Mary age 10, Jefferson age 7, Emily age 5 and Thomas age 2. The three oldest children were attending school. Allen was forty-one years old and farming. Allen's brother Gilbert and also Margaret Anderson age sixteen who I have not Identified.

In the 1860 U. S. Census (July 24, 1860) ^[4] the family had moved to Franklin, Heard County, Georgia. Allen was farming and had a personal estate valued at $16,000. Paulina was forty-eight. There were five children at home: Emily A. age 14, Thomas B. age 12, Joseph A. age 9, Benjamin F. age 7 and Emma L. age 3. The three oldest children were attending school. Their oldest son, William, had married and had three children. They lived on the next farm.

In the 1870 U. S. Census (September 13, 1870) ^[5] the family had moved to Washington, Texas, USA. Allen was sixty-two years old and Paulina was fifty-nine years old. The only child at home was Bery F. (Benjamin) age 17.

In the 1880 U. S. Census (June 15, 1880) ^[6] they were in Bell County, Texas. Allen was seventy-four and Paulina was seventy-one. This is the only record that shows Paulina born in Georgia. It is likely that Allen was the one reporting and gave the state of birth incorrectly. He also did not report the birthplace of her parents, which would likely have been there if she reported. His son's family (Benjamin) was next door.
