Biography

Gerrit Udo was the son of Fier Udo and Cornelia Gerritssen (Pluijm?). [1]His baptism was recorded at Zoelen, however his second marriage gives his birthplace as the adjacent village of Erichem.

Gerrit was first married to Gerdina (aka Hendrina) van Gulik on 12 December, 1784 at Zoelen. [2] Known children of this marriage include:

  1. Fier (b. 1785; m. 1810, Jenneke van Oorsouw; d. 1871)
  2. Jan (b. 1787; m. 1813, Antonia Vermeulen; d. 1876)
  3. Hendricus (b. 1789; m1. 1813, Metje Ton' m2. 1841, Aaltje van Duinen; d. 1880)

Gardina died early in 1792 and Gerrit was remarried on the 1st of May, 1793 to Maria van de Sand, widow of Arent van Wessem. [3] This marriage was short-lived as Maria died on their anniversary 4 years later. This union did not produce any children.

Gerrit was again married on 25 November, 1798 to Cornelia Kosters. [4] This union produced children:

  1. Maria Gerdina (b. 1799; m. 1826, Dielis van Duinen; d. 1863)
  2. Catharina (b. 1800; d. bef 1808)
  3. Aart (b. 1801; m. 1828, Adriana Ton; d. 1878)
  4. Cornelis (b. 1802; m. 1834, Steven Vermazen; d. 1880)
  5. Gerrit (b. 1803; d. 1805)
  6. Teuntje (b. 1805; m. 1829, Andries Hendrik van Hoften; d. 1855)
  7. Gerrit (b. 1806; m. 1843, Jantje van Frankfort; d. 1872)
  8. Catharina (b. 1808; m. 1856, Hendrik van Brakel; d. 1892)
  9. Jaantje (b. 1810; d. 1817)
  10. Martin (b. 1811)
  11. Neeltje (b. 1814; m1. 1854, Zacharias van Alphen; m2 Marinus van Lienden; d. 1904)
  12. Jan Cornelis (b. 1815; m. 1853, Jantje Vermeulen; d. 1855)

Cornelia died in 1817 aged about 40 years, and Gerrit remained a widower until he died at a reported 78 years of age in 1833. [5]
