WILLIAM UFFELMAN
The first child of JACOB and ELIZA (ELSLEY) UFFELMAN, was born January 3, 1889 at Elmira, Ontario,... he graduated from the Kitchener—Waterloo Collegiate, and served as a clerk in the Bank of Toronto.
In 1914, at the beginning of the First World War, he enlisted in the 118th Battalion, and served Overseas.
In the War, he was both wounded and gassed. Following his Discharge, he was employed as a Foreman with the Dominion Rubber Co., at Kitchener.
His sports interests and abilities were at a high level, having played O.H.A. Hockey in Kitchener and Waterloo with the Kitchener Dutchmen, and Football with the Toronto Argonauts.
In 1919, "Bill" married MINNIE BERTHA HAGEN, who was born at Kitchener, Ontario in 1893, and they had three children:
SHELDON LLOYD UFFELMAN
MARJORY MAY UFFELMAN DAY, and
LORRAINE JEAN UFFELMAN BROWN
Like his father, Jacob, WILLIAM became interested in municipal affairs, and served four years as alderman and two as Reeve.
In 1931, he became Waterloo's Mayor as had his father 27 years before.
JACOB and WILLIAM UFFELMAN have the distinguished honour of being the only father and son combination to have served the city of Waterloo as Mayor.
After his term as Mayor, WILLIAM served as Assessment Commissioner and Tax Collector for Waterloo.
As further evidence of his important activities in the Municipality, William was at one time President of the Waterloo Board of Trade; a member of the Waterloo Young Men's Club; The Granite Club; the Grand River Lodge, A.F. & A.M. - 151 Kitchener, Chapter 117, and of Mocha Temple of Shriners of London.
He was a Past Preceptor of Valletta PrecipItory, No. 64, Kitchener, and a Director of Boy Scouts, North Waterloo.
He and Minnie made their home at 68 John St. East; Waterloo.
MINNIE (HAGEN) UFFELMAN died January 26, 1938, and WILLIAM BLAKE UFFELMAN, died on October 3, 1947.
Both were members of First United Church, Waterloo, and are buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Waterloo, Ontario

SHELDON LLOYD UFFELMAN
the first child of William and Minnie (Hagen) Uffelman, was born at Kitchener, Ontario on Jan. 12, 1920
After graduation from Kitchener—Waterloo Collegiate, Sheldon served with the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War II in No. 215 and No. 428 Squadrons. His area of operations included England, Malta, the Middle East and India, and involved a total of 51 operational flights in Bomber Command. On one mission, his plane was forced to "ditch" in the Mediterranean Sea, and he and his crew walked the Sahara Desert in Egypt for three days until rescued by a British Army Unit.
Mentioned in Dispatches, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, in recognition of his great personal contribution to the allied cause, and was Discharged with the rank of Flying Officer.
In 1948, SHELDON married DORIS JEAN KOPPESOR, (born at Kitchener, 1926) and they have four children:
KRISTINE DORIS UFFELMAN
JANICE LAURIE UFFELMAN
CRAIG SHELDON UFFELMAN, and
JOHN WILLIAM UFFELMAN
Doris and Sheldon are ardent curlers and members of the Kitchener Granite Club. Sheldon is a shoe salesman, and their home address is R.R.#1, Waterloo, Ontario.

MARJORIE MAY UFFELMAN
The second child of William and Minnie (Hagen) Uffelman, was born at Kitchener, Ont. on Feb. 28, 1921.
She graduated from Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate in 1938, and for nine years was employed by the Mutual Life Insurance Company in Waterloo.
After a year's schooling at The Lutheran Deaconess School for Church Workers in Baltimore, Maryland, she worked as Church Secretary at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Marjorie then became a Parish Worker and Church Secretary in Baltimore, and finally, Director of Christian Education in Havertown, Pennsylvania.
In 1959, she married a widower, MERLE LOGAN DAY (born at Eldorado, Kansas, on May 18,1920), and thus became step-mother to five children:

NANCY ANN DAY
BARBARA ANN DAY, and
RALPH LEROY DAY
Merle and Marjorie are the parents of one child,
JANET LEE DAY
Merle graduated in 1938 from Hutchinson High School in Hutchinson, Kansas. He attended Hutchinson Junior College; University of Kansas, Kansas State College, and graduated in 1945 with a B.S.M.E. degree from the University of Kansas. Serving in the U.S. Navy, 1944-45, he did graduate work at the Drexel Institute of Technology following his return to civilian life.
Employed by the General Electric Company for over 25 years, Merle enjoys as hobbies; Music, Numismatics, Model Railroads, and historical reading. He and Marjorie and family live at 2360 Spring Creek Rd., Decatur, Georgia 30033.

LORRAINE JEAN UFFELMAN
The third child of William and Minnie (Hagen) Uffelman, was born in 1928 at Kitchener, Ontario.
She graduated from Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate, and attended Waterloo College, A registered Nurse, she graduated in 1950 from Toronto Sick Children's Hospital, and is a member of the Sick Children's Alumnae.
At Waterloo, Ontario in 1953, she married WALTER STUART BROWN a, native of Toronto, Ont.
Stuart attended Parkdale Collegiate and Trinity College, University of Toronto, graduating in Honours Geography in 1951. He is an Importer of wallpapers, associated with Walter L. Brown Ltd., Exclusive Interiors.
Members of Trinity Anglican Church at Port Credit, Stuart and Lorraine have four children:

NANCY ELIZABETH BROWN
BARBARA JANE BROWN, and
?UNNAMED/UNKNOWN BROWN
They live at 1431 Waters Edge, in Port Credit, Ontario.

William Blake Uffelmann b. 3 JAN 1889 Elmira, Woolwich Twp ...
William (Bill) Uffelman was born in Elmira on January 3, 1889 the son of former mayor, Jacob Uffelman.
The family moved to Waterloo where William attended the Berlin High School.
Upon graduation he worked as a bank clerk in Berlin (Kitchener), Brantford, New Hamburg, and Toronto.
In 1914 he enlisted in the 118th Battalion North Waterloo serving overseas for four years. He later worked as a foreman at the Dominion Rubber Company for 15 years and from 1940-1948, Uffelman served as the Town of Waterloo's Assessment Commissioner and Tax Collector.
Athletically inclined, Uffelman played hockey with the Waterloo and Kitchener O.H.A. teams and was also a member of the Toronto Argonauts team.
His civic interests included the Waterloo Board of Trade where he served as president, the Waterloo Young Men's Club, the Masonic Lodge, the Germania Lodge (Independent Order of Odd Fellows) and the Waterloo Musical Society where he served as an officer. Uffelman was first elected as a councillor in 1927.
He successfully completed four terms, two as reeve from 1929-30, prior to his election as mayor in 1931. His one year in office saw the abolishment of the Waterloo Sewer Commission and the construction of a new sewer disposal plant for the town. Through the Unemployment Relief Committee of the Provincial Government, a program of local improvements was undertaken.
The town also assisted the Public School Board with a loan for the construction of the Elizabeth Ziegler school. In 1933 and 1934 Uffelman returned to council as an alderman.
Following graduation from Berlin High School, was a bank clerk in Berlin, Brantford, New Hamburg and Toronto. An outstanding hockey player, he played for O.H.A teams in Kitchener and Waterloo, as well as for the Toronto Argonauts.
1914 - enlisted with the 118th Battalion, North Waterloo where he served overseas for 4 years. He was wounded and gassed.
