Gertrude E. Ulery was born June 1890 in Canton, Ohio to Samuel and Ardilla Mariant Ulery. She may have been an only child.

Gertrude was raised in Hartford, Ohio. She worked as a school teacher. She married Earl Patterson in Hamilton County, Ohio on April 10, 1909. The couple moved into her parents' home in Cleveland, Ohio after they married. She worked as a piano teacher.

Earl and Gertrude had three known children. Some time after 1920 but before 1925, the family moved to Casper, Wyoming, likely as a remedy for Earl's health issues. He died in February 1925 from tuberculosis, leaving Gertrude a widow.

Gertrude remained in Casper, Wyoming after her husband's death. She worked as a treasurer for the county government (1930 census). Some time before 1935, she married William McIntyre. They were living in Casper, Wyoming in the 1940 census.

Gertrude passed away in 1953. She was either 62 or 63 years old. She is buried alongside her husband in Trenton Cemetery in Sunbury, Ohio.
