Carl was born in 1897 in Saratov, Russia. He immigrated with his parents, John and Anna Ulrich in 1912 to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan when he was 15. His first job was at the Balwin Hotel. His parents bought a farm near Lockwood, SK and Carl worked as a farm hand. He worked for Mr. Sutherland who sold out and went to Carnduff. Carl went, too. In 1926, Carl took a course in electrical engineering. In Nov 1928, he got his naturalization papers. Carl and his younger brother then bought a farm near Drake.
Carl married Anna Rode on 21 March 1930 in Esk Lutheran Church. Carl and Anna moved to (SE 15-34-20 where their three children were born. In 1934 they moved to the Wolverine municipality, Attica School District (North of Lanigan, SK). They farmed there until they retired in 1960 and moved to Leroy, SK. Carl worked in the pool room which his son, Elmer, owned for a while. Anna died in Nov 1980 at the age of 73 and Carl continued to live in Leroy. Carl passed away after 1980.
