Cliff was born in 1955, the son of Robert and Mary K (Hartnett) Ulrich. He graduated from Wylie E Groves high school in Beverly Hills, Michigan and attended Northwestern Michigan College and Western Michigan University. He died at his home in Fenton Michigan in 2007 and is buried with his mother and grandparents in Holy Sepulchre cemetery in Southfield, Michigan.
