In 1829 Thomas D. Bennehan purchased Dicey from the estate of John Umstead.[1][2]
Sometime between 1829 and 1847 Dicey was given her freedom. In 1847 Dicey's daughters were listed in the will of Thomas D. Bennehan.[3] In his will Thomas asked Duncan Cameron to take Dicey's children.
