He was "the last of the Mohegans dignified with the title of king". This information was obtained at Mohegan, in 1834, of Lydia Fowler, an Indian woman, 79 years of age, the oldest person belonging to the tribe.
He was buried about half a mile south of the present Mohegan chapel. At the death of his son, Isaiah, "the body of king Ben was dug up, and was carried with that of his son, and buried at Norwich".
