Biography

Walter Harold was born in 1914 at Birmingham, Warwickshire, the son of George Underhill and Amelia Elizabeth Ralph. [1]

In the 1935 Birmingham electoral roll Walter Harold Underhill was living with his father at 4 Winson Place, Winson Street. [2]

Walter H Underhill married Nancy Freeth in 1935 at Birmingham. [3]

This couple had one daughter named Brenda Irene Underhill born 1936.

The 1939 Register, taken on 29 September 1939, has been described as a snapshot of the civilian population of England and Wales just after the outbreak of the Second World War. The Register recorded each person's address, date of birth and occupation.
At that time the Underhill family was residing at 141 Winson Street, Birmingham, the home of John Merrick, retired. Walter, born 17 March 1914, was aged 25. He was a steel furnace man. Nancy, born 22 July 1916, was aged 23. She was a laundress, ironer. Nancy's surname was later amended to Draper and then to Hawkins, the surnames of her subsequent husbands. Brenda, born 25 April 1936, was aged 3. [4]

This couple appear to have divorced as Nancy Underhill remarried to Bertram G Draper in 1978. [5]

Walter Harold Underhill died in 1979 aged 65 years. [6]
