On the 3rd May 1830, Jane Matilda Underwood, born 1st March 1829, and her sister, Charlotte born 1st June 1826, were baptised at Hobart Town - the daughters of Richard Underwood, licensed Victualler and his wife, Maria, of Hobart Town. [1]
Barely three months later, her father was dead, aged only 27 years. In 1837, her mother remarried.
On 10th September 1847, Jane was a minor when she married William Boucher, of full age, Brass Founder, at the Independant Chapel, Brisbane Street, Hobart, Tasmania. The ceremony, by License, was performed by Revd. Frederick Miller, according to the Independant rites and ceremonies, and witnessed by William George Donaldson and Maria Sharman. All except the latter signed their names, Maria gave her mark. [2]
From 1848 to 1861, William and Jane registered the births of eight children in the Hobart district. [3]
Jane Boucher passed away 5th July 1870, at Murray Street, Hobart. Aged 41 years, a Brass Founder's wife, born Hobart Town, Jane died from Cold and Phthisis Pulmonalis. Her death was registered on the 8th July by Mr. Petter, Undertaker, of Bathurst street. [4]
