Mary Ella Kate Underwood was born at Pancras, London, in 1889.

Her parents were Orlando Underwood, born at Bristol, Gloucestershire in 1856 and Emma Jane Underwood (nee Lusty) born at Dursley, Gloucestershire in 1858, who married at Dursley in1881.

Her paternal grand-parents were George William Underwood born at Atworth, Wiltshire in 1819 and Matilda Curtis born at Bath, Somerset in 1835, who married at Dursley, Gloucestershire in 1851.

Mary Ella Kate Underwood married George F Robinson at Pancras, London in 1913 and they had two children, George O Robinson born at Hendon, Middlesex in 1914 and Joan M F Robinson born at Hendon, Middlesex in 1916.

Mary Ella Kate Underwood appears to have preferred to sometime use her third name rather than her first name. Kate in the 1901 and 1911 census for example. In the 1911 Census she is described as a 23 year old stenographer.

She died aged 77 at Rochford, Essex, England in 1965.
