Biography

Henry Underwood was born about 1770, most likely near the county line between Orange (now Alamance) and Chatham Counties, North Carolina. He was the son of Alexander Underwood and Mary Underhill, who were Quakers. The family were members of the Cane Creek Monthly Meeting church in southwestern Orange County.

In 1795, Henry Underwood was disowned by the Cane Creek Monthly Meeting.[1] He married a woman who was not Quaker, and this was the reason for his disownment.

By 1800, Henry and his wife had moved to Montgomery County, North Carolina to make their home.[2]
