George William Gutknecht was born 21 May 1880 in Leelanau, Michigan to August Gutknecht and Wilhelmine "Minnie" Platt. His parents were not yet married at this time. Both came from Oak Creek, Wisconsin south of Milwaukee across the lake. [1]

Marriage: He married 23 Aug 1916 in Milwaukee Anna Johanna Bruttig. [2] From this marriage the following children are known:

  1. Catherine Clara Gutknecht; born 1917 in Milwaukee;
    married ca 1935 Gustave Joseph Karthausser.
  2. Irene Gutknecht; born 1920 in Milwaukee;
    married ca 1943 Francis Xavier Lobotzke.

George was in a World War I Draft Registration Card in 1917-1918 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. [3]

In the 1930 census George (age 49), Labor, was the married head of household at 737 Burnam St, Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States.[4]

His Obituary in the "Milwaukee Journal" from Friday, Nov 06, 1942; page 44, reads:

GUTKNECHT: George, residence, 3027 S. 3d st., beloved husband of Anna (nee Bruttig), father of Catherine Karthausser and Irene Lobotzke; also survived by 4 brothers, 4 sisters and 2 grandchildren. Funeral Sat. at 1:30 p.m. from the Prasser Funeral Home, 3970 S. Whitnall av. Interment Arlington. In state after 11 a.m.
