George William Gutknecht was born 21 May 1880 in Leelanau, Michigan to August Gutknecht and Wilhelmine "Minnie" Platt. His parents were not yet married at this time. Both came from Oak Creek, Wisconsin south of Milwaukee across the lake. ^[1]

Marriage: He married 23 Aug 1916 in Milwaukee Anna Johanna Bruttig. ^[2] From this marriage the following children are known:

1. Catherine Clara Gutknecht; born 1917 in Milwaukee;

His Obituary in the "Milwaukee Journal" from Friday, Nov 06, 1942; page 44, reads:

GUTKNECHT: George, residence, 3027 S. 3d st., beloved husband of Anna (nee Bruttig), father of Catherine Karthausser and Irene Lobotzke; also survived by 4 brothers, 4 sisters and 2 grandchildren. Funeral Sat. at 1:30 p.m. from the Prasser Funeral Home, 3970 S. Whitnall av. Interment Arlington. In state after 11 a.m.
