Adelaide Adeline, also known as Ada, Aday and Adah, was (according to research and Family knowledge) a deaf mute who never married. She lived with her mother, Elzie (maiden name Stickland) Faulk. until her mother's death: Elzie's name was also spelled Elsie and she was also known as Alsey or Aylsie, according to the document recorder or census taker. According to the 1860 Census of Pike County, Alabama, Elzie "Alsey" was 72 years old. In her household was Adeline "Ada" 33, single, and her son Alexander A., age 4. There is also a female named Sarah and I have not determined if this is another child of Adeline's. Adeline's parents are Thomas Faulk (1789-1842) and Elzie Strickland (1790-1860) their children were Kenzie - female (1812- ?), Elza/ Eliza - male (1814-1900), Lucretia - female (1819-?), Hinnant - (female 1823-?), and Adeline - female (1825-1900). It is the brother Elza/Eliza that some have erroneously listed as her spouse. On the 1850 Census of Pike County, Elzie and Adeline are living next door to her Eliza sibling (widowed) and his five children. The 1880 Census of Crossroads in Pike County shows the combined households of Alexander and his mother Adeline with his sibling, Eliza, and Eliza's children still at home (maybe the reason some supposed married???) Further verification of Adeline never being wed is on Alexander's death certificate where it states mothers name is Ada Faulk and says father UNKNOWN. submitted by Jerry Gaham
Adah Unknown ... She passed away in 1900. [1]
