Biography

Sarah Elvaston is recorded as being born in Bredon (Breedon Hill ?), Leicestershire and Newbold, Leicestershire. No birth record has yet been sourced.

Sarah married on 5 November 1804 at St Helen's, Ashby de la Zouch to William Adams of Marston on Dove. John Underwood and Joseph Hallam stood as witnesses.[1]

Sarah had 7 known children during her marriage.

In 1820, William Adams passed away and Sarah remarried in 1833 to Thomas Henshaw. Thomas was a widower from Marston Upon Dove. Samuel and Martha Blood stood as their witnesses.

Sarah and Thomas took in her grandsons, Frederick Adams and William Hardwick, sons of Miriam (Adams) Hardwick. Frederick stayed with Sarah until he sailed to New Zealand in 1857. John Adams, Sarah's youngest son, lived with her until his marriage in 1842. John Adams worked as a Shoe Maker.

Thomas Henshaw 2 died in 1842 aged 58 and Sarah remained in the village being of Independent Means, recorded as a 'Landed Proprietor' (owning land and receiving an income off it) 1 on the 1851 census.

By 1861 Sarah, now 82 had moved into Blakely House with John and Ann Archer.
