Biography

Margaret (Unknown) Hulins is a part of the Puritan Great Migration project and is protected because of confusion about her last name at birth.

Little is known about Margaret, the wife of John Hulins. We know that her name was Margaret because she is named as such in John's will.

Her birth date, shown here as 1570, is an estimate, based on the common practice of men marrying women a few years younger than themselves.

Many popular genealogies show Margaret to be Margaret Lawrence. No evidence has yet been found to confirm such an association. At this time, Margaret's surname must be stated as unknown.[1]

Can we please reconcile the asserted precise birthdate in the WikiTree database for this profile (currently: 1559, exactly ie not-uncertain) with the information in the prose biography blurb, that says, to paraphrase: "we have no idea when this woman was born and are just guessing." We shouldn't be guessing. We agreed to not do that, when we all signed the WikiTree Honor Code.

There's either sourced historical evidence, or there's not. When there is nothing to go on (as is the case here) we have nothing, and shouldn't synthesize ahistorical information, and publish that live to the internet for posterity as if it were genealogy.

Respectfully,

Hi Cheryl, thanks for your super-speedy work.

Hope you and your people are well during COVID etc.

Perhaps they thought her last name was Lawrence, as due to English naming protocol, one of her children would bear her last name - she had a son named Lawrence

I have some possible further information about Margaret (Unknown-290038) wife of John (Hulins-10). Netherlands Genealogie online indicates she was b. 1559 to William Lawrence and Katherine Beaumont in Gloucester, England and died 6 April 1621. There is also a baptismal record for Margaret dtr. of William Lawrence for 1557 (or 59?). Old writing. I have some other cites, but from Ancestry. Let me know if this is enough evidence to add her and her parents to this profile. They are my 11 GGPS through Margaret Hulings-Bliss. Carol Baldwin (Baldwin-3428). Thanks!
