Biography

Ulrich Burkhalter brought his family to America, arriving at Philidelphia on the ship Richard and Elizabeth on 28 Sept. 1733. The passenger list includes Ulrich Burghalter, age 40; Barbara Burghalter, 34; Elisabeth, 14; Anna Catharina, 12; Anna Magdalena, 8; Anna Barbara, 4; Margaretha, 2 ½; and Hance Peter, 1 ¼.[1]

Also passengers on this ship were Hans Sherer, age 30; Maria Magdalena Sherer, 22; Eva Catherina, 4; Veronica, 4 months. It has been claimed that the maiden name of Ulrich Burkhalter’s wife Barbara was Sherer.[2]

Barbara was alive in 1754 and had died by 1761.[3]
