John took the oath of allegiance to Massachusetts at York 22 March 1679/0, his Portsmouth tax being rebated in the same year. In 1681 he acknowledged judgement to Samuel Sayward payable in neat cattle.

John was killed in the Candlemas Day Massacre and the administration of his estate went four days later to Major William Vaughan[&] then 1 Nov. 1692 to Elizabeth with William Hilton and Thomas Trafton bondsmen. The administration of his estate was finally granted to his son John 13 July 1705. The inventory of his estate was £62/17/0.(2)

In 1699 Elizabeth filed a complaint against William Hilton for taking a cow.

1294. John PARSONS, cordwainer (shoemaker) and tanner, born ante 1658 at _____________ , 26 d. at York, Maine, 02 February 1691/2, a victim of the Candlemas Day Massacre, in which Indians slew many inhabitants and captured several for ransom in Canada. About 1676 he married

1295. Elizabeth _____________ . She was born ca 1658 at ______________ ; living in 1720 at York, Maine as Mrs. Peter Hinkson, whom she married (2) on 12 July 1698.

She and John PARSONS had 8 children from 1677 to 1691. John Parsons was a cordwainer at Portsmouth in 1674 and may have been in Maine before that time. He was working for Nehemiah Partridge in 1677 and was also a witness against George Bramhall. York granted him 12 acres on 12 March 1677/8 under the condition that he buy the shoemaker John Knowlton’s house between the lots of Henry Simpson and John Preble on the northeast side of the County Road and follow his trade. John had a tannery in 1686, probably attached to his house lot near York Corner, where he carried on his business (York Deeds, III: 57; VII: 210; Banks, Hist. of York, Maine I: 271).
