Research Notes
She may also been Barbara Unknown Faas. In the 1798 census, Anna Barbara Faas, a widow, lived with her son Johannes Faas and his family. Her age is nearly a match for Barbara Faas. If her husband Daniel Tans died before 1798, she would likely be living with her son and his family. If her actual surname wasn't specified, the census taker may have assumed it was the same as her son's, not realizing she had remarried after her first husband's death.
