I have put a public "Sterba Family Tree" on Ancestry.com. It is not complete and not all "hints" have been added. Remember I am not a relative of the Sterba's or the Farrington's. I only knew of the Sterba family and am willing to help those who are.
I knew George Sterba of Iowa City Iowa and of his sister Edith of Calif and his brother Earnest. Edith worked for a publishing Company in Calif. Earnest was an inventor with AT&T. Google "Earnest Sterba, inventor AT&T" and one of his patents will pop up. George never married. Not sure if Earnest married or not? I do not think that Edith Sterba Farrington ever had any children. The Sterba's lived in Iowa City, Iowa (The Goosetown Area). Their home was on the NW corner of Bloomington and Center St. in Iowa City. They had a strip of "farm land" across for the current Regina High School. This L shaped strip of land was on Rochester Ave and First Ave. (The longer frontage was on First Ave.). George owned at least three other small homes side by side in Goosetown. My in-laws lived next door to George his entire life. My mother in law really took care of George in his later years. When George would go to Calif. to visit Edith I would drive him to and from the airport. I suppose before 1960 he took the train. My wife, as a child, was one of Edith's favorites and my wife received many very nice gifts from Edith--gifts my wife's parents could never afford or give to a child. A Slaby (sp?) family from British Columbia Canada and one from Moline? Illinois were found by a lawyer after George died. The family from British Columbia asked about a large purple medallion that was given to one of George's ancestor's for acts of bravery by the King of Prussia. This medallion was found by the Chopek's and sent to the Slaby (sp?) family in British Columbia Canada.
