1863 In 1863 William Turnbull age 39, and his wife Elizabeth age 38, and their children, William age 14, Orson age 10, Janet age 7, John age 5 & George age 2 emigrated to New South Wales, on board the ship Persia. The Persia arrived in Sydney on 10 May 1863. William Turnbull's occupation is Farm labourer and his birthplace and Elizabeth's birthplace are recorded as Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Their religion was Church of Scotland; William could read 'a little', Elizabeth could read. Their passage was paid by Robert Turnbull. Their daughter Marion Persia Turnbull was born in 1863 'at sea' during the voyage. [4] [5]
1881 Elizabeth Turnbull died on 11 March 1881 at Balmain, New South Wales, Australia. [6]
"FUNERAL.— The Friends of Mr. WILLIAM TURNBULL are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral of his deceased beloved WIFE, Elizabeth ; to move from his Residence, Crescent-street Balmain, TO-MORROW (Sunday) AFTERNOON, at half-past 2 o'clock, to Balmain Cemetery". [7]
