from family search:

Rachall [--?--] was previously married to Arthur Scovel Sr. -------- This line of Scovel, (previously Scoville), starts with several generations residing in Wholeplace and then Shapwick, of Dorset, England. It continues on to Arthur Scovel and his wife Joanna who were both born in Shapwick about 1640. Arthur and Joanna were the immigrants to America and had their first child, Elizabeth in Boston, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts on 1 December 1662. Arthur Sr. was the second child of this family and was born on 24 June 1663, also in Boston. This family , now of six children of Boston, then moved to Lyme, New London Co., Connecticut after 1672 where the last son, Stephen was born in 1674. Arthur Scovel Sr. married Rachall [--?--] on 17 September 1690. They had two children; Arthur Jr. born 3 January 1691 and James born 9 January 1693 who died that next month on 16 February 1693. To further Rachall's sadness, the followig year, her husband Arthur Sr., died on 24 June 1694, leaving poor Rachall alone with her only three year old child, Arthur Jr. Rachall would soon find her next love in one Nathaniell Hudson. Rachall and Nathaniell had five children together in Lyme, New London Co., Connecticut with the last one, Mary Hudson, being born on Aug 23, 1705. Three years later, Rachall being now about age fouty-five, on November 10, 1708, Nathaniell would die leaving poor Rachall alone again with children ranging from sixteen to three years of age. Rachall later remarried, for the third time, to James Smith. It is unknown, but probable, that some of the Hudson children were raised by this Smith family. It is also unknown if Rachall and James had any children of their own.
